Valerio Evangelisti is the most popular Italian science fiction
writer. His first novel, Nicolas Eymerich, the Inquisitor has won
the most important science fiction award in Italy and has been the
best sold sf novel in 1994.
His second and third novels - Chains of Eymerich (1995) and The Body and
the Blood of Eymerich (1996) - have met the same success.
His fourth novel, The mistery of the Inquisitor Eymerich - has been
published in serial form, during summer 1996, by the most spread Italian
newspaper, "La Repubblica". The book will appear in hardcover edition on
september 1996, and later as a paperback in the popular collection Urania.
Another novel, The fifth essence of Nicolas Eymerich, will be published
in hardcover edition on january 1997.
At present Valerio Evangelisti is working on his sixth novel, Eymerich
and the Stairs to the Hell.
All the Valerio Evangelisti novels have the same protagonist, the
chilly and merciless Inquisitor Nicolas Eymerich of the Spanish
realm of Aragon. He acts in the XIV century (Valerio Evangelisti
is known as a fine historian too) and in every adventure he has
to solve gothic misteries which have two explanations: one in the
Middle Age culture, and one in some scientific theory of our time.
So the main story with the inquisitor is interlaced with other
stories located in our days, until the only solution.
The suspense created by this proceeding is hard to describe,
as the dark fascination of Nicolas Eymerich.
